work
I have worked in scientific, technical and medical (STM) publishing since
finishing my PhD in 1997. I initially worked at the online research community
for chemists, ChemWeb.com, before acquisition by Elsevier. That was followed
by nearly 7 years in Amsterdam at Elsevier HQ working as a Publishing
Technology Manager (turning publishing content into new online products)
and then as a publisher working with mathematics, computer science and
physics journal portfolios. On moving back to the UK I was Head of Communities
for music website YourSpins.com, before returning to STM publishing with
BioMed Central. Since 2010 I have been helping set up a new open access publisher in the Middle East as Editorial Director at QScience.com.

Married in June 2006 to Tamsin. Two children, Archie & Ella. Living in Doha, Qatar and patiently waiting for proper broadband.
When not messing around on the internet, I like to write comedy sketches, read late 19th century French literature, and listen to as much music as I can. I am, as I found out in a quiz recently, an expert on identifying mid-80s songs from sax solos alone.
What's hot with me? Wine, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Peep Show, Gilles Peterson,
Deviation, Frenchbloke, Soundhog, Moleskines, Wired magazine, Guy de Maupassant, Will Self, Irvine Welsh and, perennially,
The Simpsons & Family Guy. Recently been catching up on some things that passed me by: Friday Night Lights, Mentalist, Entourage and Community.
